We are delighted to welcome you to Covenant Presbyterian Church. We desire to serve the Lord by serving you in His name. We trust the information contained in this website will help you as you seek to get to know us.
Covenant Presbyterian Church is not a place, nor a building. Covenant Presbyterian Church is people, sinful people at that, called to worship the risen Lord and serve Him by proclaiming His name, and showing His mercy to others. We do not pretend to be "good people". Rather, we are people who need desperately to be rescued from God's wrath, our own sin and selfishness by God's loving provision of His Son Jesus Christ.
The name Covenant Presbyterian Church has been chosen to designate distinctions of our congregational life. "Covenant" is a Biblical term. It means that God has condescended in grace to form a relationship, a bond of union and communion with His children. This bond has been brought about through Christ. It is through His shed blood, the blood of the covenant, that sinners like us are reconciled to God.
"Presbyterian" means that the congregation is governed by elders (the word used in the Greek New Testament for elder is presbyteros). However, the term Presbyterian means more. We are a Reformed Church, a church that traces its historical roots to the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century. The Reformation was a renewed hearing of God's Word, a time in which the Bible and its indispensable teaching about redemption was rediscovered! Covenant Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, a denomination that believes and confesses the Biblical faith rediscovered in the Reformation.
The officers of Covenant Presbyterian Church subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms which is a summary of the teaching of Holy Scripture. We may further summarize the teaching that you will hear at Covenant by the slogans of the Reformation. These slogans are described under the heading of “What We Believe”.
When you come to worship at Covenant you will notice an invitation at the top of the bulletin. That invitation is found in the bulletins of a number of congregations associated with the Presbyterian Church in America. This is our heartfelt invitation to you: To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to all who will come, this church opens wide her doors and offers welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
