Covenant holds to the Biblical truths affirmed by historic reformed doctrine. The statement of belief of the church is best expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms, which is a summary of the teaching of Holy Scripture.
We may further summarize the teaching that you will hear at Covenant by the slogans of the Reformation, highlighted below:
Scripture Alone! The Reformers took the Bible out of the vault, translated it into the language of the people and encouraged all Christians to read God's Word for themselves. The Word of God is our only infallible rule of faith and of practice. Most importantly, the Scriptures are redemptive in focus; they concern themselves from first to last with salvation provided for helpless sinners. That is why, at Covenant, every sermon is about Jesus Christ!
Christ Alone! This means that salvation is found in Christ. It is through His all-sufficient merit that we may be restored to fellowship with the Father. Christ Alone, then, necessitates Grace Alone! Sinful man's desperate need to be right with God in the presence of His holiness, is not answered through penance, man's work or will but only by means of the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ who satisfied God's demand for the punishment of sin. Justification (the declaration that sinners are right with God) is, therefore, all of grace and is received by Faith Alone!
God's sovereign grace is also transforming grace. Grace enables sinners to affirm dependence upon the majestic God in all of life. Grace enables us to see that the purpose for our existence is "to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever." This requires a commitment to the most comprehensive Reformational slogan, To God Alone Be The Glory!
To learn more about our beliefs and distinctives, you may choose to participate in the Inquirer’s Class offered several times a year. This class will go through the basics of the Reformed faith and our distinctives as a congregation of the PCA. Participating in the class does not obligate you to become a member of the church.
